As a Technical Lead at Fullscript, I’m tasked with overseeing the technical aspects of our operations once a customer hits “submit order.” Ensuring that every package reaches our customers seamlessly requires not just technical prowess but also a culture of continuous improvement. Here’s how we leverage the power of feedback to drive success and how you can implement these strategies to elevate your own team.

The Importance of Regular Feedback Loops

Feedback isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a critical component of our team’s success. To keep our team at the top of their game, I implement “mini-360s” every six weeks. These sessions ensure that my direct reports receive comprehensive feedback from their peers. We follow up with one-on-one discussions to review clearly set objectives and goals for the current quarter or half-year. Formal Goal and Objective sessions then take place at the end of each half-year to allow for follow-up. This structured approach fosters a culture of transparency and continuous development.

For my own growth, I engage in similar feedback loops with my closest peers and consistently communicate to my manager how much I benefit from these exchanges. This practice not only highlights the value of feedback but also sets a precedent for the team.

Cultivating a Feedback-Driven Culture

One of the privileges of leading a talented team at Fullscript is witnessing their proficiency in delivering constructive feedback. However, I recognize that giving and receiving feedback is a skill that needs nurturing. Here are key strategies that have proven effective:

1. Timely Feedback: Don’t wait for formal reviews to provide feedback. Addressing issues or praising good work immediately makes the feedback more relevant and impactful. This real-time approach ensures that feedback is fresh and actionable.

2. Thoughtful Delivery: If you’re concerned about how your feedback will be received, take a moment to write it down. Consider how the individual prefers to communicate and receive information. Tailoring your feedback to their style can turn a potentially uncomfortable conversation into a productive dialogue.

3. Embracing Growth: Everyone has blind spots, and honest feedback is the key to uncovering them. Providing specific examples helps the recipient understand the context and see clear paths for improvement. When feedback is precise and constructive, it becomes a powerful tool for personal and professional growth.

Why This Matters

In the fast-paced world of tech, continuous improvement is non-negotiable. By embedding these feedback practices into our daily operations at Fullscript, we ensure that our team remains agile, responsive, and committed to excellence. This approach not only enhances our technical processes but also strengthens our ability to deliver exceptional service to our customers.

If you’re looking to boost your team’s performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement, start with feedback. Implement these strategies and watch as your team not only meets but exceeds expectations.
